Kai & Grigori

Post by NeomerArcana » Sat Mar 07, 2020 1:59 pm

When you arrive at the orphanage you're greeted by what you assume to be one of the largest buildings in the town. It is made all of stone, with what appears to be a tiled roof. Grigori your knowledge of general construction tells you that this would have been an expensive building. It appears to be one large two story building, long in shape, on which one end is a church.

The front of the church is surrounded by a small, well-kept, and quite beautiful garden, protected by an ornate iron fence. The large wooden doors to the church are open, several parishiners are leaving after the morning services. In both your minds, the whole scene seems so oddly out of place in the muddy, dirty town that surrounds it.

You are both noticed by a robbed priests who stands near the gate, providing farewells and smiles to those leaving. He gives you a signal to proceed down the road toward the back of the church, toward the long end of the building, which you assume is the orphanage. Not really knowing what else to do, and sensing no danger, you proceed. There, you find a small flight of stairs that dissappear up off the street and into the building, a kind of hallway that crosses through the building, shortways, to the other street.

Assuming the entrance to the orphanage is up here, you both enter. Neither of you notice the trip-wire on the ground, and a portcullis loudly slams down both in front and behind you.

Kai draws hit short bow and holds an arrow at the ready if kai sees anyone approach he will point the bow at that person as he says to grigori, "some priests we have here. Now what."

Grigori cautiously draws his axe and begins looking around for a way out. He then says to Kai,"Aye, strange thing for an orphanage to have. As for what we do now, what else? We look for a way out."

Grigori before you can look for anything for long, a few priests come running around the corner, yelling the most pathetic war-cry either of you have ever heard. They are armed with rusty old pikes.

As they see you they stop short, two of them continue yelling but it trails off pathetically. Apparently you were not what they were expecting.

"Oh. Hello. Sorry, a thousand apologies, we thought you might be the dark one."

One of the priests returns around the corner and begins to crank up the gates. You are both now free.

"You see, with the town-guard so unable to protect the town, we've taken it upon ourselves to set a trap. Anyway, what can we do for you? Are you here to collect more soldiers for the army?"

"We're here to see someone known as Mother Sceris, we have some questions we'd like to ask, mainly regarding the eerie circumstance around Southport. If any of you have information it would be appreciated for you to share what you know."

You are escorted to Mother Sceris. She is a very old elf, and despite being of elven kind, she has grey hair and skin like old parchment. But she smiles warmly.

You introduce yourselves and explain your presence. You are interested in any heirs to the people of the tale. She stops you short and explains that she is their child... which means she is extremely old. Almost beyond belief, but not quite.

She asks why you're interested in her lineage. When you explain that you believe the things happening in town are related, she turns grey. She nods gravely and agrees to help you however she can. The only thing she can think to do for now, is describe her parents as best she remembers them. Both loving, and very kind. They built the orphanage thinking they would never have children, but later did have her. In an attempt to keep her status amongst all their "children" from causing jealousy, they always described all of the children as theirs, never once making her feel like she was above the others.

That sort of treatment was what allowed her to have such a long line of brothers and sisters, some of which still visit her today, though mostly now it's their children as most of them have died. There's no other information that she has that she can hope to offer, she says. She makes the records of the orphanage available to you, if only she knew what to look for?

She also offers you and your friends residence here for the time being if needed. There are plenty of spare rooms, and to be honest, she would feel safer if there were more strong-armed people to help protect the children.

"I appreciate your help and hospitality, anything we find out will share. What deity does the church out front worship?"

Mother Sceris replies, "well, not any one god. We're a house of worship, we don't pay too much mind to who you're praying to."

"Hmmm, perhaps we should ask around the church to see which gods are worshipped by whom and possibly find Arlette to do some observation overnight in case of any other visitors."
