The morning at The Sleeping Gnome

Post by NeomerArcana » Fri May 17, 2019 7:34 pm

The Wrestling Thread and Arlette's Midnight Meeting Thread will continue as we proceed with the morning.

As an aside, your wagon is locked up and secure. The shed here is guarded 24/7 by four men and a half-elf who are well-equipped and well-paid.

The morning comes along with a bit of a headache, from either alcohol or blows to the head during the wrestling matches. You're all in the small city of Threerun, in the common room of The Sleeping Gnome Inn & Tavern. The group is ready to proceed back the way you came, to the intersection and onward to Lavender.

Before the group leaves the city, is there anything anyone wants to do in town? Threerun has a GP limit of 3000gp, so likely anything is for sale here, except maybe some magic items that are hard to come by. There are temples, food halls, guilds, smithies, libraries etc.

City map without any landmarks indicated.

threerun-v2.PNG (16.32 MiB) Viewed 32651 times
  1. The two central islands are wealthy neighbourhoods
  2. The bottom-centre and top-centre and the docks
  3. Bottom-left is an area where half-orcs and half-elves tend to live, bit of an outcast area. The area is colloquially named Half District
  4. Bottom-right is the slum area, the poorest people live here
  5. Top-left is the temple district, there are wealthy homes around here as well
  6. The large building's between the Temple District and the Half District are the council buildings and food-halls
  7. The market should be easy to spot, colourful tents in it
  8. All the other areas are general housing and shops etc
  9. The party entered by the road at the top-right

Hilda will try and Gather Information:
1d20-1

She is trying to find out:
  1. Where is the best place in town to eat, regardless of price?
  2. Who is the chef/cook there?
She will also visit the market, to sample the local produce to see if there are any new ingredients that she could make use of. Professions (Cook) roll:1d20+4

When she leaves to go to the market. "Hragg, will you accompany me around town? I am not used to this many people, and with all the trouble we've heard about, I don't want to run into any alone."

Hilda, everyone knows that the best place to eat is the Hungry Horse, a small food-hall near the Town Hall. It's hard to get in and get a seat as it fills up so fast, even though it's a little bit pricier than everywhere else. They keep their hours to only during the day as well, which gives them an air of exclusivity. Even Lord Glavi has been seen in there before, when he's out amongst the people.

Hilda and Hragg please roll spot checks.

Kull the half-orcs you meet here are all what you would consider "civilized". They have no clan, no sense of belonging. They crave a sense of purpose. You talk about the great orc warbands you've been a part of and their eyes burn with a fire they have never felt before. These half-orcs need a leader, they need a clan. Instead, they labor in the docks, or as bouncers and guards.

Elec still slightly groggy from Krull's attack yesterday. Agreed to visit the half District with Krull, as Krull talks to the half orc, he would find some half elfs to understand their way of life in the city. Having never experience such things before. After a while, he would ask head for the market to look for a weapons merchant.

Elec, you don't have much trouble meeting folk with various amounts of elven blood. There are even a few full-blooded elves, outcast from the ancestral homes. Those full-blooded few seem to be immensely sad, like a part of their soul has been ripped from them. Those with half-blood seem to do much better though; outcast though they may be, never quite at home here in the lands of the human, or in the lands of the elven-kind, they have formed a sparse community here in Threerun. Apparently, in most of the major towns and cities of The Three Kingdoms, you can find a street, or a block, or a corner of the place where those with half-blood congregate and live together.

Much like anyone in the city, they all have various jobs. They don't seem to get as far as being a blacksmith, or someone in a learned position, such as a scribe, but they can be found in those professions where they can be kept away from prying eyes. Bakers working in the late hours, tanners, that sort of thing. Of course many of them work menial jobs like dock-workers and farmhands. But they all get by.

You do meet one particularly odd individual, who to you seems like he is more elven than human, by the name of Ilas. Like you, he knows the art of surviving, finding food and shelter, of tracking his prey. However he lives and tracks in the city, acting as an enforcer and detective; helping the town guard track down a thief or the thieves uncover the location of a merchants bag of gold. He works for whoever pays.

At the market there is a prominent weapons stand. Seems like the recent rumours of trouble have got everyone looking for a new weapon. Here you can find any weapon or amour from the Players Handbook.

Roll a Spot check as well Elec.

Hilda, you seem to have lost your coin purse. All that you have left is a handful of coins totalling 9gp, 4sp, and 1cp that you had in your various pockets and pouches.
