Common Knowledge

The Three Kingdoms

The Three Kingdoms is a civilised world. It is a human land. The Merchants Trails are a series of well-kept and patrolled roads that join up most of the major towns and cities. There are of course other settlements here and there but they are generally too small to note on a map. In the centre of The Three Kingdoms is the Ganther Plains, and generally wild and unsafe rolling grasslands that the people of the kingdoms ignore and avoid. The Three Kingdoms themselves are Kalindar, Rivendale, and Orthendine.

Your character may know more about the world or certain areas depending on their background. This information will be shared with you privately.

Kalindar are the kingdom to the north. They are the only true Kingdom, ruled by a monarch. It's also the largest, Southport and Threerun all the way to Westwatch and Corrington lie within it's borders.
Orthendine is a nation ruled by a learned council. It's territory is small, with the capital and the peninsula being it's only lands.
Rivendale is a theocracy ruled by the Temple of Pelor. Pelor is worshipped fairly consistently throughout the Three Kingdoms, though there are other temples to other gods. It's lands stretch as eastward as Firethton and as north as Ableview.

This is the sort of map that most people in The Three Kingdoms would be familiar with. It isn't unusual for every town to have at least one person in possession of such a map, with various inaccuracies. If you were born and raised in The Three Kingdoms you could be from one of these towns or cities, or from an even more remote town off the Trails. Of course you may be from the lands beyond the deserts to the north (or even from the deserts), the lands to the east, west or south, or even from a distant land across the ocean.

For a sense of scale, it's three days from Barlowe to Avim in the north.

The Merchants Trails

The Merchants Trails are a series of interconnected roads that criss-cross The Three Kingdoms. They are usually well maintained and patrolled by the nation the stretch of road resides in. The Trails are well traveled by Merchants all year long, bringing news, goods and culture to the entire land. There are of course lesser trails that lead off to smaller and more isolated towns and hamlets; these Trails are more dangerous but locally known.

Ganther Plains

The Ganther Plains is a large rolling grassland that dominates the center of The Three Kingdoms. It's a dangerous place, with many foul creatures that stalk the land. The civilized people of The Three Kingdoms generally avoid it as much as they can, but the inexplicable march of society encroaches onto the plains anyway, often bringing random attacks but monstrous humanoids and fouler creatures.

Watches

The watches were created when the Three Kingdoms achieved peace 1000 years ago. They are maintained and staffed by their host nations and are responsible for ensuring that the wild lands that surround the kingdoms stays at bay.

Worldmouth

This is a large cavernous opening in the Craven Mountains that leads to the underworld. It is guarded by Carvden and Northwatch who routinely ensure that there are guards manning the battlements there. Nothing has emerged from the Worldmouth for over 200 years.
